Artist's Comments

Last summer I went to Germany, and we stopped by Sachsenhausen, a concentration camp near Oranienburg, which in turn is near Berlin. This particular camp was, at least comparatively, less horrific than ones like Auschwitz-Birkenau or Bergen-Belsen because it was created to imprison political dissenters instead of Jews. This does not diminish its overall horridness by any means, though. Apparently "Arbeit macht frei" was a popular slogan in all of the camps, and here it was part of the ironwork on the gate as you enter.

The title (Die Lüge) is German for "The Lie."
